Warriors win second-round series-opener

The Golden State Warriors are still without top gun Stephen Curry (out with injury), but they had no trouble seeing off Portland Trail Blazers in the first game of their second-round playoff series.

Klay Thompson led the scoring with 37 points and he was ably supported by Draymond Green, who finished with a triple-double of 23 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists, as the Warriors cruised to a 118-106 victory.

While the Warriors went one up in their second-round, Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors completed first-round formalities by winning their series against Charlotte Hornets and Indiana Pacers respectively in the seventh games.

Voges taken to hospital after being hit by a ball

Australian cricketer Adam Voges, captain of the Middlesex side playing against Hampshire in an English county game, was taken to the hospital on Sunday after being struck in the head by a ball.

Physios believe Voges likely suffered a concussion, after a throw from a substitute fielder was missed by the wicketkeeper and hit Voges on the back of his head.

Smith to skip rest of IPL

The growing injury list of the RPS side now includes Steve Smith as well.

Australia captain Steve Smith will not be part of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he is set to return to Australia as a precautionary measure.

The wrist injury to the in-form batsman is the latest blow to the Rising Pune Supergiants franchise, who have already lost Kevin Pietersen, Faf du Plessis and Mitchell Marsh to injuries.

Bayern turn their focus on Atletico

Bayern Munich have their work cut out at the Allianz Arena as visiting Atletico Madrid bring in a 1-0 aggregate lead in the Champions League semi-final tie.

The fact that Bayern have stumbled against Spanish oppositions at this very stage in the last two editions of this competition is only added pressure to coach Pep Guardiola, who is set to move to Manchester City at the end of the season. That means that this is his last chance to win the coveted Champions League with Bayern Munich.

Villarreal secure fourth spot in La Liga

Goals from Samuel Garcia and Adrian Lopez gave Villarreal a 2-0 win over local rivals Valencia, which takes them six points clear of fifth-placed Athletic Bilbao.

This result means Villarreal have guaranteed themselves a place in at least the qualifiers stage of the Champions League next season.

Radwanska, Kerber crash out in Madrid

Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska and Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber suffered disappointments in clay, losing out in first round encounters at the Madrid Masters.

While Dominika Cibulkova accounted for Radwanska in three sets, Kerber was done in by Barbora Strycova in straight sets.
