Who scored the fastest Test fifty?

New Zealand defeated West Indies in the first Test by 186 runs. It was only their second victory in the Caribbean.

Mark Craig, a debutant for New Zealand, was an unlikely hero, finishing with match figures of 8 for 188. That is the best by any Kiwi debutant, bettering the previous mark of 7 for 143 set by Paul Wiseman in 1998.

There was another record though, one that was more unlikely. As West Indies went down, Shane Shillinford came up with a fighting knock, registering the fastest fifty by a West Indian.

Shillingford's 25-ball fifty is the second fastest in Test history in terms of number of balls faced.
