A quack for that!

When it comes to selfies, pout is out. Now do the duckface

The Duck Face seems to be quite the rage with the selfie gang.

You don’t need to be a Madeline to have an army of young men pursuing you; a duckface will do just the needful. Duckface? Isn’t that a derogatory term making fun of someone’s looks? Urban dictionary has the best explanation for a Duckface: A term used to describe the face made “if you push your lips together in a combination of a pout and a pucker, giving the impression you have larger cheekbones and bigger lips”.

In order to get a clearer picture of the desired face, turn to Instagram. If you see girls without a pout and yet the lips are together suggesting a pucker, then it is duckface.

In the age of selfies — where selfie itself has 15 or more categories, ranging from bathroom to bedtime to eat out and more — there was a need to get the best face for that right selfie shot. So, while boys make funny faces or play by twitching their eyebrows for a shot, girls decided to pout. But when the pout went wrong, the duckface was discovered. So, when Kim Kardashian isn’t pouting, she is doing a duckface selfie.

It looks like the pout is clearly on its way out. Suggestions by Instagram and FB pros say, “for the perfect duckface, the pre-requisite is a good shade of lipstick; preferably a darker shade like a pink or a red, that helps the lips to be in focus. If the photo isn’t a close up but a full length one, it helps to push out the hips a little. Do it only if the hips are slender and in shape, otherwise concentrate on the face alone. These poses are best when clubbing with friends, especially girlfriends,” suggests Upasana Das, a textile designer.

Upasana says she prefers the duckface to a pout because sometimes the “Pout can make a person look horribly wrong. Duckface is also good when doing modelling shoots or while applying makeup. It is more of a naughty face, which is why it is best to use with your gal pals.”

The duckface is best for selfies or ‘group’fies.

First the pout, then the duckface. what next? Once all the selfie-obsessed have mastered the duckface, the next attempt would be to get the sparrowface selfie. Sounds weird? Turn to Urban dictionary and it says “The face that has replaced duckface in selfies. It is achieved by opening one's eyes as much as you can and slightly puckering your lips, in order to look like a sparrow.”

Oh well, simply look for a photo of a sparrow and get copying, till you get it right.
