Meghana Karthik, the founder of Fresh Baked Goodness, bakes a delicious chocolate cake. ‘Theobroma’, her own creation, consists of six layers — there’s a thin bed of chocolate cake, topped with dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate, melted dark chocolate and cocoa dust.

Made of rich and creamy, melt-in-your-mouth layers, a single slice of the Theobroma can leave one feeling full. “This cake is made only in my kitchen but due to demand, I also retail it to many popular restaurants in the city like Plan B, That Madras place and Chamiers café,” says Meghana, adding that she caters to over 30 orders of the cake in a single week. A kilo of the cake costs Rs. 1,500, and a vegan version is also available on demand.

Apart from this, her best sellers include cheesecakes and pies. Her extensive menu also includes specialty breads like cream cheese lemon pound loaf and caramelised banana bread, specialty bakes like Oreo cake and tiramisu torte, high tea delicacies like peach bundt coffee cake and chocolate bundt with caramel ganache and some vegan offerings.

It has been three years since Meghana quit her job in the film industry and decided to become a home baker. “I started baking as a hobby, and some people who tasted my bakes thought I should take it to the next level. I started this venture just to keep my interest in baking alive, but it took a form of its own and grew to where it is today,” she says delighted.
