Government Engineering College, Barton Hill, is back with its annual techno-cultural fete, Aagneya

Aagneya, the national level techno- cultural festival by the students of Government Engineering College, is back.

The heat is on, as the participants of ‘Aagneya’, an inter-college fiesta by Government Engineering College (GEC), Barton Hill, are fired up to battle it out in a series of innovative and spectacular technical, cultural and literary events. The eighth edition of the fete is being held from March 20 till March 22 at the Kanakakunnu Palace Grounds and the college’s premises.

“Through Aagneya, we try to kindle the spirits of our participants through a host of definitive and challenging events and pro-shows,” says Anandu Surendran, final year mechanical engineering student and chief coordinator of the festival. “We have pulled all stops to ensure an exciting experience for one and all,” he adds.

One of the major highlights of the fete is the pro-show by singer, Nikita Gandhi (who sang the popular track ‘Lady-O’ in

I ). She will be performing on March 22 at the Nishagandhi Open Air Theatre. “We also have three other pro-shows by violinist Balabhaskar, Carnatic rock band Agam and Tamil rock band Jhanu to spice up the event,” says Anjana C., final year Electronics and Communication engineering student and vice-chairperson of the College Union.

‘Full Throttle’, a popular Aagneya event organised by the Mechanical Department of the college, is also ready to dazzle the participants with its flagship ‘Auto Show’ among other competitions. “The auto show will showcase a host of exotic supercars and bikes including Harley Davidson, Suzuki Bandit, Ducati, BMW and Triumph, to name a few,” says Anandu. Several interesting technical competitions are also lined up under the events, ‘Inceptra’, ‘Cos Phi’, and ‘Prayaana’ by the Information Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Civil Engineering Departments respectively.

The budding engineers of GEC have also set up an interesting ‘Air Show’, which will feature a host of drones and quad-copters to dazzle the viewers.

The fete will also have a 24-hour ‘hackathon’ for the geeks where coders can meet and interact with like-minded people and compete to win goodies, including a Mozilla Firefox device. Apart from attractive prize money, participants also stand a chance to win job offers from UST Global at another programming team event - ‘Cascade Coding’. Quizzers should definitely not miss the college quiz by Major Chandrakant Nair and an open quiz by ace-quizmaster Arul Mani.

One might think that the fete by would-be engineers is all work and no play; but no! The fete has its set of unique cultural events for talented, budding artistes. “Choreo Video – our group dance event has always been a crowd favourite; we are expecting more teams and more action this time,” says Kalyani Rajkumar, final year Electrical and Electronics Engineering student and head of the cultural events at Aagneya.

“Other cultural events include ‘Persona’ (Personality Competition), ‘Synchro Dance’, ‘Lord of the Strings’ (Rock Show), Mime, Alaap (Best Singer), Celluloid (Movie Quiz) and Spot Choreography to name a few,” she adds.
