Switching track

N. Jayaprakash is a multi-lingual composer. Popular in music circles as Poornathrayee Jayaprakash, he has the unique distinction of composing over 400 krithis , the bulk of them in Sanskrit, a majority of which are now being rendered by eminent musicians in kutcheris .

Now, he seems to be switching track. This ‘modern’ vaggeyakara or composer is finding his place on the small and big screen.

Jayaprakash, who has changed his name to J. P. Sharma and is riding the success of his character Marakkar Mandapam in A. M. Nazeer’s television serial

Pattusari , has bagged roles in Blessy’s

Kalimannu and Padmakumar’s

Koottathil Oraal .

Making his film debut in

Payyans , directed by Leo Thadeus, Jayaprakash did a cameo in Veendum Kannur , directed by K. Haridass. “I’m looking forward to the couple of films I have signed. In 103 km , which is directed by newcomer Sunil Soman, I have written a Malayalam song. This film is to be a multi-lingual. And I have written the dialogues and songs for the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions. Mikku Kavil is the music director. I have also penned the lyrics for a Malayalam song for an untitled film to be directed by Vinod, which will have music by Alphonse and rendered by Shreya Ghoshal. The other film on the anvil is one directed by Anil.”

Jayaprakash also donned the lead role in the play Karnabharam , directed by Chandradasan, at Jodhpur recently.
