The first thing to grab your attention is the name. The next are the shoes, clothes and accessories. Vans International, a well-known American shoe brand, has launched its second and third store in India, in Bangalore. The first was established in Delhi. The 650 feet square Vans store in Phoenix Mall is inviting for its swanky and trendy décor.

Vans caters to the young and hip, particularly for those whose style statement is sporty and trendy. Let's start with the shoes. Needless to say, there is a variety of shoes to choose from. They're made of Italian leather, suede and canvas, and come in earthy, vibrant colours.

First established in 1966, Vans was known then as the Van Doren Rubber Company. Soon, Van's simple canvas shoes became widely known in Southern California. Van's sticky gum rubber sole and sturdy construction made the shoes perfect for skateboarding. Today Vans is popular across the United States, Europe and Asia through company-owned stores, as well as independent retailers.

The designs include new checkerboard combinations, embroidered canvas designs, plaids, pop art prints, metallics, satins etc. In keeping with its style philosophy of authenticity, creativity and self-expression, Vans shoes come in five categories: The Rowley Style 99, Anthony Van Engelen and Steve Caballero's Half Cab. The shoes are hardy with a firm grip because of their soles, which is a combination of wafer designs, vertical lines and small diamond shapes.

The apparel available is tees, hoodies and jackets. There are fashionable belts to choose from, as also smart backpacks. The Vans Classic range is priced at Rs. 1,999 onwards.

Vans International has two outlets — one at Forum Mall, Koramangala and the other at Phoenix Market City, Whitefield Main Road. Call: 67266157
