Seeking to give a sense of security in case of death, accident or health emergencies, India's financial inclusion company Swabhimaanya has launched a unique e-commerce portal with tailor-made insurance packages for those facing class division including domestic workers and drivers.

The set up based out of Delhi and NCR, has tailor-made insurance packages starting from as low as Rs.200 per annum. It is an attempt by Swabhimaanya to bring financial security within the ambit of those to whom such services simply meant luxuries enjoyed by the elite. The launch follows a successful pilot in Tamil Nadu where Swabhimaanya benefited about 25,000 people over three months. It now plans to reach out to one million people by the end of year across India and has joined hands with Bajaj Allianz for life insurance and Future Generali for accident and health insurance.

With population of domestic workers nearly at 100 million people in India, Swabhimaanya becomes the first player in this unchartered territory to further government's effort to bring domestic help at par with industrial labour in terms of financial inclusion and benefits. Tailor-made insurance schemes to bring in the much awaited financial support can be availed from their website www.swabhimaan.com.

The entry point for an individual to avail the services starts from less than one rupee per day. Different insurance plans offered by Swabhimaanya include life, accidental and medical insurance. Swabhimaanya, CEO and managing director, Rahul Pagare said this is a path-breaking initiative for us in bringing sustainability and dignity in the lives of domestic help and support staff. “With around 100 million domestic workers employed across India, the need of the hour is to empower this section of society with basic financial exposure.

This seems as a very achievable dream as most of the helps in metropolitans are employed by literate house owners who can help their domestic help to avail these services from our website www.swabhimaan.com conveniently without having to move out of their homes. This is also a significant tool for empowering womenfolk in this segment as they constitute a large chunk of domestic workforce,” he added. Swabhimaanya is also reaching out to domestic workers and commercial vehicle drivers through Resident Welfare Associations and Taxi Drivers' Associations.
