Indian students seem to be in great demand across the world. After many universities and institutions of the U.K., Australia and the U.S., many academic institutions of Canada are opening their doors to Indian students. While many have been for years taking in Indian students, now some of them have started tie-ups with Indian colleges through which a student can study in India and obtain a foreign degree. Focussing on such a segment of students, Canada’s Seneca College president, David Agnew, came down to India recently. His aim was to forge partnerships with institutions in India. He met several stakeholders, including Entrepreneurship and Management Process International, with which he signed a memorandum of understanding.

With more than 290 programmes and 500 career options, Seneca College is now trying to increase Indian participation in its courses. Currently more than a thousand Indian students are enrolled with the college.

We are expanding applied research activities, broadening international and corporate partnerships and investing in capital improvements.

On his recent visit, Agnew signed an agreement for a postgraduate programme in Social Media and Business aimed at providing mobility for qualified MBA/PGD students to specialise in Seneca’s Social Media postgraduate programme in their second year.

Agnew said, “We are expanding applied research activities, broadening international and corporate partnerships, investing in capital improvements and increasing experiential, cross-disciplinary and flexible learning opportunities. I came here because India places huge importance on education.”

Agnew revealed that the Social Media programme will help students make a career in different industries and market sectors across the world. He claimed that after this course they could pick up a job in Canada as well, or go there for higher studies. The students can help finance their studies by working part-time which is allowed by law, he explained. The Canadian immigration rules now are more favourable for young educated people. The government wants to double the number of students by 2022.
