Struggling to find equilibrium between tradition and modernity while searching for one’s identity, is a situation faced by everyone. In case of women it becomes worse because of the male-domination in the society. Bringing to fore Star Plus will telecast a show titled “Dosti..Yariyaan..Manmarzian” from April 13. It stars newcomer Monica Sehgal and Kashmira Irani, who returns to the small screen after seven years. The serial is about exploration, friendships and finding one’s true calling.
Monica and Kashmira play the roles of Radhika Mishra and Samaira Khanna two young women who are friends but hail from different backgrounds. “Radhika is a small town girl. She is in that phase of life where her parents want her to get married. She has no issues with marriage or getting married, but all she asks her parents is for time. She wants to explore the world and figure out for herself what she wants to do,” says Monica.
Identifying herself with her role she says, “I can totally relate to her. I come from Ujjain, and it has a similar mindset. Like Radhika, I am not rebellious and only want a little time,” she explains. She got the role on the basis of hosting “Hashtag Jugaad” on the Youtube.
Kashmira’s is working with Swastic Productions who have produced this serial after their last serial “Amber Dhara” in 2007. “They launched me and so they're all family. It feels like a home production! Working with with people you're comfortable with, gives you its own high. I'm having a great time,” she confides.
Pointing Samaira’s character as challenging, the actor says, “Samaira is a city girl from an affluent family, but she wants to make her own standing in society. While she hasn't forgotten her traditional values, upbringing and manners, she is a girl of today. A lot of people have pre-conceived notions about city girls. We want to break and change that.”
The show has been shot in Rishikesh and Mumbai. “The shooting in Rishikesh was done in December and January. Though it was immensely cold we did adventure sports like bungee jumping and river rafting. It was challenging and fun” Monica exclaims adding that the show’s realistic format and location shooting will engage the audience besides dealing with what happens in the life of a girl is bound to a connecting factor. “Parents will connect to the show through the psychology of trying to understand their children and bridging the communication gap,” says Monica. Kashmira adds, the viewers can relate to the characters as “they are not larger than life. They are real.”
