Goodbye…

It's time to say goodbye... Photo: S. Subramanium

While the mind goes a step forward, the heart goes two steps backwards. As we inch closer towards the end of this academic year, most of my batchmates, that is, the “veterans” of the school, have lost the spring in their step. I am, of course, talking about the students of Std XII.

Sweet memories

Our school days are numbered. Although this is said to be the year in which the students cannot afford to think about anything other than studies, there is always this small devil in our hearts reminding us that these are the last few days of the most enjoyable part of education, and we think of all those fun days we've had — the good ol' days.

As we go to our favourite haunts like the canteen, or even the lobby, a feeling of nostalgia takes over. We look at our juniors and think “how nice it would be if are able to go back in time”, and the memories of the past come flooding to us. The presence of any problem, no matter how massive, was always nullified by the presence of helpful and loving teachers. The thought of leaving the safety and comfort of our school and venturing into the outside world is terrifying.

Heartaches

Of course, we are excited about the thought that we will soon be “college students”. But, the heartache with which we are leaving our beloved school exceeds the excitement college life promises, by miles. The thought that we may never sit in these classrooms, never again get ticked off by these teachers, never again roam about these corridors is tormenting. And for those of us who have been in the same school since the very beginning, yours truly included, it is all the more worse. Even our earliest memories are of school.

I thank my school for all the wonderful memories it has given me.
