Movie: Va Quarter Cutting

Pushkar and Gayathri, the duo who gave us “Oram po”, which was way ahead of its time, have come up with “Va Quarter Cutting” starring Siva, S.P Charan and Lekha Washington.
Without doubts the duo has taken a big step for Tamil cinema but their cutting lacks the ‘kick'. The movie tests your patience and makes you want to break for a cutting.

Sundararajan aka Sura (Siva) comes to Chennai only to leave for Saudi the next day and before that he wants to take his last gulp of cutting. Marthandam (S.P. Charan), who is going to marry Sura's sister, helps him with his mission.
The rest of the movie is Sura's journey in search of his elixir in the streets of Chennai amid a series of unfortunate events that separates him and his quarter.
In his quest, he meets Saraswathi aka Saro (Lekha Washington) who attempts suicide after her parents scold her, King-Prince, a father-son duo who run a casino and Baby Face (Craig), a wannabe gangster.
Highs and lows
The director duo have failed to fix their drink well but managed to change the idea of Tamil filmmaking.
The comedy didn't quite reach nor the ‘punch' dialogues and yet Siva's and Charan's performances makes you wait and appreciate the cinematographer's (Nirav Shah) eye for Chennai's night life.
Character building is the key to such movies, which “Va…” lacks; it was more of a quirky film. Music by G.V. Prakash was different and did justice.
Bottomline: The trailer gets you high but not the movie.
