It's summer and it's time to get minimalistic with your wardrobe. It's that time of the year again when sandals truly rule. Read on for new styles this summer.

Breezy options

The stores are flooded with trendy girlie stuff; flat flip-flops in bright colours like yellows, reds, pinks and blues with flowers or butterflies set in the centre which are feminine and can be worn along with jeans or tights teemed with kurtis.

For the guys, sturdy flats with black and blue combination is a nice option for that trendy holiday wear.

Remember, in summer one should allow the feet to breathe and perspire. Keeping them covered causes quite a stink!

Shoes and canvas are a definite no-no, except for formal occasions. Guys can opt for trendy sandals, which are semi-covered and open enough to let your feet breathe. Strappy sandals in rich black and brown and are a good buy too and can be worn with formals.

Wedge flip-flops fit the bill for heel-crazy girls as they add height and are summer friendly. These come in single colours like white, peach and black.

‘Topless' sandals with minimalist toe support are must-haves this summer. Also available are sandals with straps that go across your toe towards your ankle. These come in contrasting colours like peach and brown, green and yellow, black and red and look chic too.

What's more? Some are washable and available at affordable prices.

Traditional trend

Don't forget the traditional Kolhapuri chappals that have evolved with time and have got a makeover. These look good and definitely are worth a try.

Espadrilles are a good option too as they are made of soft jute and are skin friendly too. They can also be teemed with long or short skirt and look quite preppy as they come with bows and floral prints and have medium heels.

A chic pedicure and a few season's best footwear is what you need to put your best foot forward this summer.
