It's counselling time! Students are looking at different colleges and most importantly, different courses. Being a student of Leather Technology I feel I am tailor-made to talk about “out of the box” career choices. Gone are the days when people preferred safe career options. Now students are exploring and venturing into a number of new courses and taking up jobs in the same.
Changing trends
Some examples being that of technology related courses in leather, textile, food, pharmaceuticals, ceramic and fashion fields, courses in multimedia, business administration, catering, law, journalism, civil services, etc. The trend is definitely changing and rightly so.

Imagine being a technocrat in fields like leather or textile which are some of the highest foreign exchange earning industries of India. Or..... A computer wizard with creativity, are you? That's a deadly combo for a multimedia expert! Who knows? You might even end up as the graphic designer of a future Avatar! No? Hmmm then... do you keep an eye out for what people wear? In that case you must take up fashion technology and you can be à la Manish Malhotra! I know there are a lot of you out there who are thinking “I have no interest in any of the above. It's just my Mom's food that interests me!” Not to worry! “Culinary” is the word and you are a prospective chef.
And just imagine, with the number of cookery shows increasing in TV channels, you can even find a career in television as a super-judge!

It's high time we realise that such offbeat fields need a lot of people for their growth, and that it also lets our country's economy flourish. And the icing on the cake is that we also have a lucrative career! So why waste time?
