The European Union Film Festival is back in Delhi, this time with loads of love and affection. The 17th European Union Film Festival, which started early this week, will go on till March 25. After the films are screened in the city, the festival will travel to six other cities in India – Bangalore, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Goa and Hyderabad. This year's theme is “Europe in Love”.
Speaking on the occasion of its launch, the Ambassador of the European Union, Joao Cravinho, said, “I am very happy to present the 17th EU Film Festival to the Indian audiences. This is the strongest representation we have ever had in this festival. I think it truly reflects the European Union — 25 nations joining hands to speak in one voice but preserving their cultural identities and respecting one another.”
Though not all films will make it to other cities, he added, “Viewers will find that many of these films involve more than one country, which is the reality of modern lives all over the world. I believe that Indian film buffs as well as those wishing to learn more about Europe, will find the EUFF2012 a rewarding experience.” The festival kicked off with the screening of the U.K. film by Terence Davies, The Deep Blue Sea at the British Council in New Delhi. My Queen Karo (Belgium), Aching Hearts (Denmark), Romantics Anonymous (France), Something more about Love (Bulgaria) are some of the films to be screened in the coming days.
The festival will end with a film from Luxembourg, Bride Flight.
The European Film Festival is organised by the Delegation of the European Union and the embassies of the EU member states in India in collaboration with a number of partners: Alliance Francaise, British Council, Goethe Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Federation of Film Societies of India, Suchitra Film Society and Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation, Cine Central Calcutta, Entertainment Society of Goa, etc.
