Debutant writer Jitendra Gianchandani on his romantic fiction, “The 3 U-Turns of My Life”

Jitendra Gianchandani, the chartered accountant-turned-writer has just launched his debut book ,“The 3 U-Turns of My Life” . A romantic fiction story based in India, it is about the common competition that exists between a CA and MBA. What happens when they develop feelings for the same girl Urvashi. Destiny tests their friendship, love, patience and their professional skills too.

A versatile person and an avid reader, Jitendra is already working on his second book, “The Three Wise Monkeys”.

Excerpts from an interview:

How did you come up with the title ‘The 3 U-Turns of My Life’?

The ‘3-U Turns of My Life’ is apt with the plot of the book, where protagonist Manav Modi (inspired by our prime minister), in spite of his hard work and sincere efforts, was on the verge of failure three times in his career, but every time destiny favours him and ultimately three U-turns shape his life to be successful.

Is this book based on a real life incident?

This book is based and inspired by a few real life incidents such as earthquake of Gujarat in 2001, global financial crisis in 2008, Lavasa hill city scam on Mumbai-Pune express highway and media tagging Nira Radia as corporate lobbyist in 2G spectrums case.

What kind of difficulties did you face while writing the book?

Writing is as torturous as a woman delivering a baby. But unlike a baby, which is born in nine months, the book took three long years to come to life.

The journey had started in 2012 and ended in 2015. I had to rewrite 20 times before I submitted to publisher.

Are your characters inspired by the people around you or from your own imagination?

My characters, even very small character, can be identified and linked with the real life people. I am a Gemini, which is considered as the sign of dual personality. The protagonist Manav Modi is a CA. and has an introvert personality while Deepak Mehra, MBA, is full of life and flamboyance, which somewhat reflects my persona. Like Modi, I am a school dropout. I was simple and shy during school days. But later was influenced by people around me and it is reflected in both the characters, Manav and Deepak.

After living in Dubai for so long what inspired you to write a story based in India?

I think writing is the best way to share your knowledge, experience and thoughts.

Hence after living for 18 years in Dubai, I felt obliged to give back to society especially to young Indians, who are in great numbers and who deserve better quality life and facilities in our great country. I want them to forget the problems and learn and get motivated from the story of Manav Modi.
