Every VLCC beauty and wellness product is first tried on me, says Vandana Luthra

When she began, beauty and wellness expert Vandana Luthra says the medical fraternity here didn’t quite see the correlation between the wellness industry and the medical world. Something that she began focussing on through her brand VLCC in the late ’80s.

At the launch of VLCC’s latest slimming, beauty and fitness centre at New Friends Colony in New Delhi over the weekend, Vandana said the thought to enter the wellness industry came to her mind while observing obese people practising yoga under the supervision of her mother.

“I come from a health freak family. Later, I studied nutrition and cosmetology in Germany and started off my operation from a basement in 1989. The medical fraternity here was then convinced that wellness has no role to play in weight loss. I proved that as nutritious experts we can provide support to the medical fraternity and vice-versa,” stated Vandana.

By identifying and roping in technically-trained doctors, latest imported technological equipment and a dedicated support staff in multiple centres operated by VLCC, the 55-year-old woman with sharp business acumen said she has been providing individual attention to each customer, be it dealing with issues like obesity, health-related problems, pigmentation or hair transplant.

“Today, I have 6,000 children working for me. To me, each employee is a child. I am the guinea pig; every product is tried on me first before they are approved for the market. I focus on research and development. My ambition is to give each consumer healthy living in the next five years. Our focus is on service delivery and technology,” she said.

The just-opened beauty and health outlet, she said, is also equipped with the latest appliances that use cutting-edge technology to deliver result-oriented weight management programme and beauty solutions. At each of her outlet, Vandana said, “I promote a wholesome diet though I do not promote vegetarianism. We stress the need for following a balanced diet. Our body requires all kinds of nutrient. It is important that each individual enjoys his or her meal.”

Vandana, one of the star attractions at designer Manish Malhotra’s show at the recent India Couture Week in Delhi, said, “The fashion boom during the past few years has made people more conscious of their looks.”
