There’s a special joy in hitting a screeching alarm clock on its head and going right back to sleep. But, what would you do if the alarm clock refused to shut up till you solved a jigsaw puzzle or shot a laser beam right?

These are some of the quirky gift items at Go Gizmo, in R.S. Puram. The store is the idea of five friends — R.Vinod, R. Vijay Krishnan, S. Ragunath, G. Ananthapadmanabhan and B. Purushottaman — who wanted to set up a store that stocked whacky gift items which people would love to gift and receive.

They source their products from China, the US, Europe and other countries after carefully trawling the Internet for interesting gift options. That was how they brought the selfie stick here, headphones that look like nothing you’ve seen before, fruit forks and interesting ceramic knives.

They have an egg shovel, designer ice trays, a warmer that works on a USB cable and a cryogenic coaster to keep your drink hot or cold. They have an extensive range of bar gizmos. Think party shot glasses, LED glasses and glasses that glow once a drink is poured into them.

For kids, the section stocks a funky stringless guitar that plays music when you touch its laser beams, child-friendly yet difficult-to-solve puzzles that can keep them occupied for hours on end, and more.

“Of late, so many people recycle gifts. We wanted to come up with a store where people will never be tempted to think of that option,” says Vinod, who says the partners usually try all products before they put them on the shelves.

The alarm clocks are a glorious exception, he laughs. But, happy customers have been calling in, saying they are waking up brighter and fresher after having solved their puzzles!
