They call themselves the ‘Kings of Chennai comedy’ and after a three-month break, Crea-Shakthi’s Pun-dits — featuring Murali Satagopan, Vaidhya M. Sundar, Rahul Sridhar, Prashanth Selvarasu and Smarabh Sriram — are back in action. And this time, they join hands with ‘Pretentious Movie Reviewer’ Kanan Gill to perform this weekend in the city. Murali Satagopan talks about the upcoming show and more.

We had a contest where we auditioned performers by asking them to send a one-minute video. The winner of the contest (Vikash Paul) will get a five-minute opening slot in the show, apart from the five regulars.

What can we expect at your show?

A healthy mix of stand-up comedians talking on various topics ranging from marriage to Indian society.

How do the Pun-dits define their sense of humour? What sets you apart from other comedians?

There is a lot of satirical humour with some slapstick as well. We are a motley bunch with a lot of variety. It would probably be the fact that we are able to intersperse generic humour with some local flavour as well, so that people from all over the country will be able to appreciate it.

How did Kanan Gill come on board for this show?

We were looking to associate with some comedians outside Chennai. As Kanan Gill was very popular on YouTube and in the stand-up comedy scene, we invited him to be the headlining act for this show and he happily obliged.

What has changed since the launch of Pun-dits in October last year?

The response has grown phenomenally. All our shows have been running to a full house, and both viewers and aspiring performers have taken to stand-up comedy immensely. It feels good to be performing to such crowds.

The Pun-dits and Kanan Gill will perform at The Museum Theatre, Egmore at 7 p.m. on June 27. Passes are available at bookmyshow.com. Details: 96002 23456
