Aditi Lal always wanted to be a designer as she grew up watching her mother has her own label — Mona and Neelam. “I have seen them both at work and the way they dressed up when they had to go out. My mother was so particular about her clothes, shoes and accessories that as I grew up I could not think of any other field but designing,” says Aditi.

With a passion for creativity she studied at the Raffles Millennium International, Koramangala and there was no stopping her. “I started off with Western wear and today I am just into designing Indian wear,” says the 22 year-old designer. “It all started with my sister’s wedding. We took off to Delhi to buy her wedding clothes but was disappointed with what I saw even with some big names. There were hardly any options or variety to choose from. That triggered off my getting into Indian wear,” says Aditi about switching gears from designing western wear to Indian ethnic.

After a few months of designing, it was time to have her first show. So Aditi opened up her garden and had her first exhibition and sale there, “which was so well-received that it encouraged me to come out with more designs.” And now she’s having her second one at Raintree, which starts today and concludes on April 2. She will showcase her Spring Summer 16 Collection. This time the upcoming designer says she has come up with bright colours in light fabrics. So you can look forward to colourful lehengas, anarkalis, kurtas, summer dresses, funky saris and floral crop tops.

Aditi explains that she has used the art of block printing for her crop tops, skirts, organza dupattas and dresses. “My saris and blouses have a blend of print and embroidery on matka silk, georgette, cotton brocade and tussar,” she beams and goes on to add that “this exhibition will determine whether I want to take up design or printing more seriously as I also like creating fabrics and prints. As a start-up designer, I enjoy meeting people my age and collaborating with them. It’s a lively atmosphere with tons of energy and we learn from each other and build relations that will take us a long way.”

(The exhibition will be on from April 1 to 2 between 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. )
