It's blazing hot and honestly it's difficult to pick the right clothes to wear day after day. It's almost as if the summer heat has made us lethargic about most things including fashion. But let's not despair. The trick is to keep it minimal.

Designers both in India and abroad are seen sticking to a very clean, sophisticated simple aesthete in their collections. Trending huge are stripes and Madras checks reminding one of candy canes. Nudes, shades of white and pastels are the go to colour palette this summer. Prints are popular too. Quirky fairy tale inspired prints are very fashionable and also fun to wear on a hot summer day. Pleats and frills have definitely made a comeback this season lending skirts and dresses a whimsical touch.

Picking out work wear is the toughest. But here are a few pointers.

Own a few staple separates. Linen pants in ivory and black for starters. The good thing is that you can pretty much wear them throughout the year. The linens breathe so well and are perfect to pair with cotton mulmul shirts in contrasting colours. You can even experiment and pick bold printed shirts to go with your linen pants. Accessorize with a narrow belt to complete the work ensemble and you're ready for manic Monday. Try and keep the jewellery very minimal. Just a hoop or a small stud is perfect. Add a cuff to go with your outfit.

Palazzos are another trend that you can easily pair with different coloured knee length pin tucked tunics.

That way you don't have to repeat an outfit too often. Ideally none of us women wants to do that. So the rule is to recycle cleverly. If you're bored with the regular palazzos pick crushed palazzos or the ones finished with lace scallops.

Wear an ethnic necklace made out of wood or brass and bangles to give the outfit a bohemian air. Add a pair of Kolhapuris and voila you're all set to take on the summer heat in style.

Bengali sarees with the Jamdani weave are delicate and beautiful to wear in summer. Stay on trend and wear them with boat necked sleeveless blouses in cotton. Soft khadis and airy kotas also feel luxurious to the skin in summer.

Finish the look with a pair of delicate jhumkas and a bindi. Always remember to pick versatile clothes that you can mix and match with your existing wardrobe.

Of course it is perfectly alright to indulge yourself once in a while with a dress or a saree that makes you feel like a million bucks. Let's beat the summer heat in style!
