It’s the year of the pant and well-fitted, cropped just above the ankles is the preferred choice this season. So it’s time to throw out those harem pants, jeggings and dhoti chudis and time to stock up on cropped pants, printed trousers and palazzos. The focus this season is on form-flattering shapes and comfort. Coloured denims too are a trend that will not go away anytime soon. “The colours have transitioned from rich jewel tones in the fall to pastels: mauve, yellow, pink, and blue,” says Anushree Reddy, designer.
Cropped pants are another rage this season and everybody from college students to fashionistas is sporting the look. “It’s a very versatile design and can be worn in denims and linen. You could wear them in neon colours, polka dots and stripes as well,” says Karishma Rajani, a fashion blogger.
You could also pep up your formal wear by teaming it with cropped trousers and a classic white button down shirt. You can’t go wrong with this classic combination. “You could be more experimental with colours in casual wear. Very popular are bright neon shades and trendy colours ranging from bright red, the colour pink daisy, orange, lemon, emerald green, azure, blue and flesh. A combination of two contrasting colours, especially black and white, is in fashion. Even printed trousers are very popular and you can take your pick from floral, animal and graphic designs,” explains Anushree.

For those of you who are tired of floral prints, which can go horribly wrong if you pick the wrong print, you can also choose baroque inspired styles. “Trousers with baroque prints look fabulous and when paired with basic coloured tops they look very good. If you’re looking for more comfortable pants then you could try the palazzo pants. Anything that flares outwards looks stunning and can be easily teamed with cropped tops to create a very stylish look,” says Karishma.
Anushree adds, “As long as you pick the right cut, colour and length, palazzo pants and wide leg trousers are perfect for work and play.
Palazzos are available in soft fabrics such as linen, crepe, chiffon, jersey and more. They are comfortable and fashionable.”

Flared trousers work wonders for women struggling with weight issues as well. After all there is no need to compromise on style just because of those few extra kilos. “Wide-leg trousers are a timeless option that flatters most body types. Length is key. When worn with heels, these floor-grazers could make you look taller and leaner. Also it’s a good time to put away boring black slacks in favour of something bolder like graphic prints. These look perfect when paired with anything from a black tee to a melon-hued cardigan. Cap it off with pumps or a chunky sandal,” says Anushree.

Baroque pants: Baroque prints can easily be dressed down with soft knits or a T-shirt for a rockier look. Alternatively, a solid colour shirt with a pair of baroque trousers will give your work wear wardrobe a new-season style.
Coloured denims: These can instantly boost any outfit. And they're not just meant for women — men can pull off the look too. The best way to team these candy-coloured pants are with neutrals. You can’t go wrong with black, white, cream, brown, or tan top. Another interesting way to flaunt this trend is colour-blocking. It looks the coolest when you combine pastels with other pastels, and bolder colours with other bold hues.
