I head to Lakme Salon in Cunningham Road to meet Sheila Shanthraj, a beautician with 20 years experience in Lakme. Before starting the facial, Sheila analyses my skin.
She first completely removes makeup from the eyes, lips and the entire face. Then, deep cleansing is done with cleansing gel; after which a skin toner is used. Next, an almond scrub is applied to exfoliate the dead skin cells. Then a glow pack is applied with circular movements for the pack to penetrate. After removing the pack, whiteheads and blackheads are removed, focusing on the nose and chin. Then a skin toner is used to relax the skin. The skin is then massaged with rose exotica cream for 10 to 15 minutes. Later, a skin firming serum is applied, with a few spots being dabbed and blended into the skin.

Sheila then speaks of one of the distinguishing features of the facial. “I use an ultrasound machine that produces heat and helps penetrate the firming serum deep into the skin.” Following this procedure, Sheila massages the skin for several minutes, and then applies a moulding mask, which is applied on a gauze placed on the face. The facial takes 45 minutes to an hour to be completed and concludes with the application of sunscreen lotion.
That Sheila is an expert in facials is evident from the gentle way in which she massages the face. She doesn’t rub the skin too hard and while removing impurities from the skin, she does not jab at the skin.The facial soothes my skin and removes impurities from deep within. My face looks clean and supple.
