Come Saturday and Britain’s newest rising punk rockers The Virginmarys will bring to the country their blend of rock ‘n’ roll with contemporary punk. The three-piece band, comprising Ally Dickaty as the lead vocalist, Danny Dolan on drums and Matt Rose on Bass, will perform in Bangalore as part of their three-city tour.
Speaking to MetroPlus ahead of their gig, Ally says they are incredibly excited to be playing in India. “We’ve always wanted to come to India. We haven’t heard a lot of Indian music before, so when we come over, we intend to catch up on as much of it as possible.”
Describing their music as classic grunge with the spikiness of punk with attention to the detail and honesty of prime British rock, The Virginmarys have created a soundscape that is unique to their signature and passion for playing live.

After the success of their debut album
On their formative years, Ally recalls that drummer Danny and him used to play as a band called For Tomorrow.
“We’ve been playing together for a long time. Coming from the hilltop satellite town of Macclesfield, above Manchester, we got together and played and then we met bassist Matt, churned out some new music and got onto the road.” He adds that they loved doing rock ‘n’ roll and real good music rather than what they hear in the charts and Britain at the moment. “We started in a great way and want to still keep doing that, giving emphasis to true music.”

When asked what inspired the name, Ally laughs and says: “Danny and I went to LA in America to do a recording. We heard a couple of guys in a bar order up some drinks called Virgin Marys so we just took it up from there.”
Looking ahead, Ally says it’s all about the second album at the moment. “We are excited about getting the new stuff out there. We just want to share our music with as many people as we can.” Our music has evolved over the years, he adds. “It has become more refined. We have found our own voice and become more of a direct act. We are really in a good place and excited about the road to discovering new music that we are on.”
To upcoming bands in India, he signs off with this message: “Follow your heart. Keep listening to other music and make sure you find your own voice in all that and stick to it. Create your identity and let your music speak for you.”
