T he Hindu MetroPlus Lifestyle Show 2013 was formally launched with a high-profile fashion show, followed by cocktails and dinner at Taj Coromandel on May 24. The highlight of the event was a showcasing of exquisite gold and diamond jewellery by NAC Jewellers, a wide range of electronic products from Samsung and tastefully designed outfits by Mohammed Anaikar of Suede.

Samsung, the title sponsor of the Lifestyle Show, unveiled its latest 75” LED Smart TV with voice and motion control features. Doing the honours were Nitin Gambhir, Zonal Key Account Manager, Samsung India, and Vijay Vasanth, film actor and scion of Vasanth & Co. NAC Jewellers’ theme was a combination of red and gold, and black and gold, while its diamond collection was against a backdrop of black and gold outfits worn by beautiful models from Bangalore and Mumbai. A bit of nostalgia was brought into the collection when one sequence was choreographed to the tune of the popular old Hindi film song ‘Baar Baar Dekho.’ In the diamond sequence, the dancing models swung to ‘New York, New York’.

Suede’s designer outfits were all in grey and black, peppered with purple, burgundy, blue, mauve and fawn. Said Mohammed Anaikar, “I have introduced subtle bling — just a hint of sequins and shimmer in a minimalist way.” He comes from a family of leather exporters and took to textiles and designing due to a personal interest in fabrics. Seen at the party were celebrities from the fashion and film world.
