The annual Miss and Mrs. Chennai and Tamil Nadu contest took place in the city recently

It was a glamorous evening at The Radisson Blu Hotel which was the venue for the 14th edition of Mrs. Chennai and the second edition of Miss and Mrs. Tamil Nadu, an event conducted by Virgo Event Management.

The open air stage with purple and green lights lit up the venue, setting the mood for the evening. The 20 finalists of Miss and Mrs. category participated in rounds such as self- makeover and table settings, and creativity before the finale. The Mrs. Tamil Nadu finalists were a mix of women from fields as diverse as software to teaching,medicine and interior designing. Their motivation to participate was to shed inhibitions and break-free from their regular routines to explore something new.

Singer Malavika Sundar was the host for the evening. The finalists took onto the stage in ethnic garments such as anarkalis, ghagras and saris designed by Shaheen Razvi of Adaa Fashion Lounge.

The Talent Round followed, which saw them sing, perform fusion Bharatanatyam and koothu performances among others. In the communication round the women exhibited their witty marketing skills selling lipsticks, biriyani, CID services and also matrimonial services promising to find partners from Africa to Antarctica.

The panel of judges included Priyadarshini Govind, director of Kalakshetra, Dr. Sharmila Kothandaraman, who runs her own pharmaceutical company and is an anchor on a few television shows, Arvind Kathore, a model and an artist, Shaheen Rizwi – fashion designer, Dr. Karthick Ram, plastic surgeon and Vikram Cotah, Senior Vice President of GRT Radisson.

There was also a special performance by ‘Thrill Veera’, the well-known juggler who entertained the crowds as he rolled a ball on a sword and juggled fire-sticks. The cheering soared dramatically when he balanced rolling wheels on his stomach, feet and hand simultaneously while lying down.

Vindhya Krishna, a student, and alsogrand daughter of late actor Rajasulochana was crowned Miss Tamil Nadu. Mrs. Suganya Saravanan, a doctor won the Mrs. Tamil Nadu title. Upasana Iyer won the Miss Chennai title and Bindu Anil was crowned Mrs. Chennai.
