Doctor’s helpline for Diwali

November 01, 2013 07:43 pm | Updated 07:43 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

A 24-hour public service Diwali helpline number has been launched by plastic surgeon Dr. Manoj Khanna to provide immediate consultancy for any burn injuries during the festival.

The chief consultant cosmetic surgeon at Enhance Aesthetic And Cosmetic Studio says the number will be functional from November 3 to November 8 and will provide telephonic advice for injuries, wounds, burns, etc.

Dr Khanna, as precautionary measures, asks revellers to see medical help immediately if the burned area is large. And not to use wet compresses as they can cause the perosn’s body temperature to drop. “Instead, cover the area with a clean, soft cloth or towel. And give the injured person acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain.”

If the area affected is small, he suggests to keep the area clean and continue to use cool compresses and a loose dressing over the next 24 hours.
