By connecting households to professional chefs and passionate amateur cooks, a startup named Foodcloud is ushering in sunny days

In today’s world where cooking food for two people at home seems like a herculean task and where the evening doorbell is anticipated as the maid’s arrival instead of the hardworking husband’s, a startup named Foodcloud is a blessing. I am sure its co-founder Vedant Kanoi will have many female followers treating him as a messiah.

Foodcloud is a website which enables people to order home cooked food from chefs or passionate amateur cooks who operate from home. In a way it’s a one stop solution when it comes to ordering world cuisines made with love and affection by a home cook. It works on a simple format where orders are taken a day in advance. Some 30 odd chefs are listed with their profiles on the website >www.foodcloud.in . Apart from a brief introduction to the chefs, a menu is also listed.

It offers international cuisines such as Italian, Mexican, Lebanese, Oriental as well as Indian regional cuisines such as Rajasthani, Moplah, Assamese, and Hyderabadi among others. I think it’s a wonderful platform for housewives to showcase their skills and present them to food lovers and create an impression sitting at home. But as the menus are quite extensive, offering more variants than a good restaurant, it needs good management too.

Chef Yamini Khemka, who is a baker, has a professional setup at home and works on a notice period of 96 hours for customised cakes. Minimum order for a customised cake is 3Kgs. She has been into baking for the last four years but enrolled with Foodcloud only a year back. “I really feel that Foodcloud helps and promotes their chefs quite well. I do around 140 cakes a month and have patrons who only order from me,” she says. Another chef, Anandana Bhasin, is famous for her Thai and Chinese delicacies. She maintains a huge inventory at home and has a separate kitchen for her delivery orders. “I aim to come up with my own restaurant one day and Foodcloud is a good platform where I can sharpen my skills and know the palate of Delhiites,” she expresses.

So all those people who love to host parties at home and are fed up with restaurant food loaded with oil and added preservatives can now order cuisines they prefer and even customise a menu according to their tastes, with a phone call or a click of the mouse.
