Apps to cure boredom

When you’re bored out of your wits and Candy Crush has become old hat, there are still a lot of apps to help you out of your funk. Here are some. (Don’t give me that look; I only used them for research! Honest!).

QuizUp A very popular trivia game, the app has a great database of question categories and allows you to match your quizzing skills against anyone you choose – from your best friend to a random stranger sitting three continents away. Pick a category and the app will either match you with a player, or you can challenge a friend, and then it’s a fight to death (not literally, of course) as to who can score the most number of points the quickest.

The questions are of the multiple-choice type and the interface is clean and simple to use. You can even chat with different players or discuss questions with them.

Spaceteam

Want an adrenaline rush while glued to your seat? This is the app you were waiting for. This is a multi-player game; you all have to work in tandem, following instructions to avoid your eventual demise. Make sure, however, that a boss or parent is not around because it involves a lot of chaos and yelling (No, really. You have to keep shouting instructions for the teamwork). The game also supports cross-platform multiplayer profiles, so if you have an Android and your best friend has an iPhone, you can still play together. Rather exhilarating!

Hodor Keyboard This is for the unabashed Game of Thrones fans. As we all know, Hodor is the most expressive and articulate of all the characters. And so, to match the fluency of Hodor’s vocabulary, this is an app which lets you be like Hodor and just keep saying Hodor all the time. The app is basically a one-button keyboard where you can long-press for maximum Hodor, swipe left to un-Hodor a Hodor, or go ‘hodor’ or ‘HODOR’. Text your friends with this app and annoy them – maximum annoyance, maximum fun. Also, as the app description says, “if your passwords are Hodor, this is by far the fastest way to log in.”

The Ministry of Silly Walks This app lets you Monty Python your way across the streets of London. Become a member of the ministry and showcase your eccentric walking skills: glide, jump, pirouette, slide, hop; do whatever it takes, but don’t trip due to hurdles in your path. And avoid those vexatious pigeons! Voiced by John Cleese himself, the app has randomised sceneries that guarantee you will not get bored. It’s time for you and your stiff upper lip to take a stroll.
