“Simmer Show” showcases the paintings of eight artists on diverse themes

This summer has been a visual delight for art lovers in the Capital. “Simmer Show” at Gallery Pioneer, Lado Sarai is one such treat. On till July 11, the exhibition showcases the works of artists Pramod Ganpate, Krishnandu Porel, Kishore Roy, Madan Lal, Manoj Aggarwal, Praveen Upadhye, Ashoke Acharyya and Thitaikar Biswas. The paintings are an amalgamation of artworks ranging from abstract to figurative themes, from deities to human portrayals, acrylic to watercolour and oil on canvas.

Talking about the exhibition, the curator and artist, Praveen Upadhye, whose works are also on display, says, “The show has paintings of eight artists, primarily covering the age group of 40-50 years. We have put up 29 paintings.”

Discussing his work, “Ashram Boys”, he continues, “I am from Karnataka and came to Delhi in 1988. While studying art in Dharwad, I was deeply inspired by Amrita Sher-Gil. So, I drew upon Bal Brahmacharyas of the Hindu Ashram as my muse and created the paintings in Delhi. Prior to this, I have painted the ‘Landscape’ series and the ‘Safar’ series.”

The group exhibition also includes the “Magic Flute” paintings by Kishore Roy, which are a depiction of Lord Krishna in his various forms. It also features Pramod Ganpate’s acrylic painting representing womenfolk and Manoj Aggarwal’s paintings portraying humans. Apart from these, the display covers Dinesh Kumar Ram’s abstracts in acrylic, Ashoke Acharyya’s architectural works in watercolour and Krishnandu Porel’s acrylic painting of an intricately carved doorway.
