The age-old story of two lost brothers separated as kids who find each other with a family song years later is fairly familiar to anyone who has watched the lost and found movies of the Seventies and Eighties. Since subversion rules these days, there is Hey Bro , opening on February 27 which tells the story of long lost twins who are not particularly happy about finding each other.

In Bengaluru to promote the film directed by Ajay Chandhok, actors Ganesh Acharya, Maninder Singh and Nupur Sharma talk about what went into making Hey Bro . “It is an action-comedy about twins,” says Maninder. “The tagline of the movie is ‘Judwa With A Twist’ since the twins are not identical. There is masala, entertainment, romance and a solid script.”

He adds: “The songs are already famous online. We have a ‘Birju’ song featuring all the Bollywood legends from Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgan to Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar. Govinda also does a cameo in the film and Sonu Nigam sings in nine different voices for Ganesh’s introduction song.”

Ganesh pitches in and says this is a multi-star movie. The one thing the cast would like people to take away from the movie is a smile. “People will come out smiling,” says Ganesh. “It has got all the ingredients for an entertaining film. The story is fun and easy to relate to. I am searching for my long lost brother. Assuming he looks like me, I go around Mumbai with my picture. The twists and turns along the way is what makes the film worth the watch.”

On acting in the movie, Ganesh, a celebrated choreographer, says: “People know about my dance. But in this movie, I’m giving acting a shot with a lot of action which was quite tough,” he laughs.

Talking about memorable moments in the film, Maninder said: “When Govinda and Ganesh were acting together, the entire set was laughing since they were just absolutely hilarious.” Nupur adds that the cast used to plan pranks on her all the time.

Ganesh plays Gopi in the film. “It is my father’s name and has been lucky to me. Any movie I do I make sure I use the name Gopi.” Nupur points out that Ganesh taught them a lot. “Though he says it was tough, his acting skills are great. He has showed us how to enjoy ourselves on the set.”

Maninder adds: “I keep looking at his face since he’s the only one I know who dances with his face too. I’ve never seen anyone enjoy himself like him. That is why people love him so much. He creates these small nuances that appeal to people.” Humbled by their comments, Ganesh says he’s not a teacher. “I’m a learner and I love the whole experience of being with these stars.”

Looking ahead, Maninder says “This is the first time I’m getting to do a lead role. I’m very positive about Hey Bro . In the movie I’m very serious. Ganesh helps me loosen up. The response has been great so far.”

Ganesh asks people to give the movie a try. “It is a movie from the heart and we hope you will look forward to Hey Bro 2 ,” he winks.
