Eighteen years of experience as a yoga practitioner and instructor, and her desire to make yoga more accessible globally, inspired Geeta Iyer to write the book Illuminating Lives with Yoga , which bagged the Nautilus Silver Award this year.

The book focusses on yoga as a basis for self-development. It has over 324 colour photographs with step-by-step instructions to ensure gradual improvement. It contains information about the right ways to practise asanas, pranayama, mudras and bandas. It is a comprehensive reference book and a practical guide for beginners as well as experienced practitioners and instructors.

The chapter on yogic healing explains the methods of healing, without the use of medication. It addresses eleven common health issues such as acidity and ulcers, asthma and bronchitis, back pain, diabetes, high blood pressure, knee pain, migraine and tension headaches, neck pain, cervical spondylosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, frozen shoulder and tennis elbow. Every ailment has beneficial asanas and pranayama, with specific lifestyle changes that will enhance healing.
