100 layers
We live in a time where I spend 15 minutes in office watching a random beauty blogger on YouTube put on 100 layers of nail polish. All in the name of research, of course. The rabbit hole just gets deeper from there: 100 layers of mascara, liquid lipstick, foundation… That last one resulted in a ghastly look that channelled Edward Cullen.

YouTuber Jenna Marbles took it several steps further: she spent seven hours putting on 50 pairs of fake eyelashes, and 100 layers each of foundation, liquid lipstick, nail polish, hairspray and spray tan (after about 20 layers, she conceded it was a big mistake). Her commentary makes the video fun and the results are as horrifyingly hilarious as one would expect. You just can’t look away.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you would know that Potterheads are gearing up for the most exciting news since 2007: Queen Rowling has blessed us with another book. Well, it’s a script of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child that will be staged in London starting today, July 30. But, those are technicalities. Once again, we can enter into the magical world, this time featuring Harry and his family. If you haven’t pre-ordered the book, do so now. Or just turn up at your local bookstore and hope that they have a few left.

Yes, you’ve probably heard this number by Sia featuring Sean Paul before. But sisters Aathy and Aara Thambiappah from Toronto have given the song a classical music twist by performing it on the veena. I’ll spare you the technical details (simply because I don’t know much about classical music myself) but it’s definitely catchy. They manage to keep the eclectic sound of the song, and that’s what’s cool about it.
Their YouTube channel, Veena Thambaps, features more such covers, including ‘Neruppu Da’ from Kabali , ‘Ennodu Nee Irundhaal’ from I , ‘Deewani Mastani’ from Bajirao Mastani and several medleys.

Have you been working too hard? Time to take a break then, and plan a long weekend off. Independence Day (August 15) falls on a Monday. And if you aren’t in one of the essential professions, you most certainly will have the day off.
Take a road trip with friends or family, go to your happy place, or visit a place you’ve never been to before — as long as you’re back at your desk on Tuesday, before the boss walks in.
