With an unprecedented increase in the number of car launches every manufacturer nowadays is aiming to offer more to the customers. Newer technologies, newer models with facelifts, and some exciting new features are the order of the day. While, I feel bad for the manufacturer to be living in this competitive era of car wars which requires them to be experimenting and innovating always, I feel happy for the customers who get more options with greater efficiency and features.
So, this past week it was the turn of Hyundai India to come up with its latest offering. And, they chose their globally successful Elantra. And, why not considering it is Hyundai’s first car and one of only 10 cars in the history of the auto industry to reach over 10 million sales globally.
Hence, in the last week launch of the premium sedan Elantra, B S Seo, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Ltd stated, “It is designed in line with a vision of creating cutting edge driving innovations and delivering outstanding comfort features. The new Elantra is engineered for excellence to cater to various needs of the customers.” But, how is the new Elantra different from the older one. On the exterior, the new model sports new projector headlamps and radiator grille. The LED lights and the muscular wheel arches give a newer and more enhanced look to the car.

On the inside, the car brings in a host of features which reflect the zeal to offer more. The interior, I feel, is roomy and comfy. There are ventilated seats for the driver and the passenger having heating/cooling system at the back and underneath their seat. The driver’s seat is called a power seat because of its 10-way adjustable option. That is in addition to the tilt and telescopic steering which allows you to adjust the steering wheel in four different directions. There are four speakers offered as a standard. And the seats in pure leather are available only for the two higher end versions while the other versions get the knit seats. The safety of the car is enhanced by 6 Airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill Assist Control, Vehicle Stability management, Electronic Stability Control, etc.
The car is offered in both petrol and diesel engines. While, the petrol model gets 1.8litre Dual VTVT engine which churns out power to the tune of 147.5bhp @ 6500 rpm and peak torque of 177Nm @ 4700 rpm the diesel model has the same tried and tested 1.6-litre VGT CRDi engine which gives an output of 126.3bhp @ 4000 rpm and torque of 270Nm @ 1900rpm. There are in total 3 variants in petrol and 4 variants in diesel. The petrol variants range from Rs. 14,13196 to Rs.16,49906 and the diesel variants range from Rs. 14,57677 to Rs.17,94179.
