Yet another step has been taken for the benefit of the inmates of Tihar Jail. Siddhartha Vashishta Charitable Trust (SVCT) organised an exhibition of paintings made by some creative inmates of Tihar Jail at the Satyagraha Hall, New Delhi. The Trust has been working towards helping the families of the inmates since last one year. The amount collected after selling the paintings goes to the prisoners' families for their aid. The exhibition was inaugurated by the evergreen beauty of the tinsel town and a Member of Parliament, Jaya Prada. She stated, “The painting exhibition will definitely be helpful for the families of the inmates, and one should contribute to a noble cause such as this.”
The guest of honour was Prof. Zargar Zahoor, Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, Jamia Millia Islamia. He spoke about the inmate's way of expression which can come out only in the form of a painting or an art.
Prof. Zargar explained that one can extract the best out of their art by using the paintings made by the inmates for calendars, book covers and illustrations. To this he added by giving an example of an inmate, who painted the canvas black and left a white spot, which symbolised his hope for freedom. The exhibition kicked off with the performances by sarangi maestro Kamal Sabri. Sabri has an academy at Tihar since last one-and-a-half years.
