Remember the Mysorepaaku of yore? Golden brown with honey-comb patterns inside? That’s what Annapoorna is reintroducing this time for Deepavali, calling it Tamil Nadu Mysorepaaku. Among the other specials this year are pista sonpapdi, Karaikudi kai murukku and dry fruit boxes (priced from Rs. 380). The hotel chain has also tied up with Krishna Fireworks and gives customers a 25 per cent discount voucher redeemable when you purchase crackers. The annual Deepavali mela is on from October 29 at the outlets in People’s Park, R.S. Puram and other locations. Their gift coupons can be redeemed for food, sweets and savouries or for room bookings. They have also introduced elegant gift boxes.

A 20-year-old tradition will continue at this catering firm, when they set up their annual Deepavali sweets mela at Vanishree Hall in Ramnagar, from October 26 till November 1. Among the highlights will be Bengali sweets such as rasmalai, rasgulla and cham cham, varieties of mysorepak (chocolate, carrot, badam, Horlicks and Bournvita). And, yes, there’s their trademark ada pradhaman, which sells at Rs. 275 a litre.

Delhiwala Sweet Home
It’s going to be a dry fruits feast in Ramnagar this Deepavali. New introductions include kesar kaju pista roll and kaju ki gilori. In savouries, check out the namkeen chandrakala, stuffed with moong dal and spices. The traditional shakkarpara and namkeen para will also be available. Raja Street Thirumurugavilas Nellai Lala Sweets
Another familiar landmark of Coimbatore has added new sweets to its already impressive repertoire. Athipazham halwa, dates halwa, mixed dry fruits and gulkund are some of the new entrants. While the old favourites remain, it has introduced mysurpa made from carrot, Horlicks, milk and cashew.
Laddoos are prepared with rava, pasiparuppu and raagi. Their famous jalebis continue to reign supreme. Assorted gift packs and gift vouchers are available at all of their seven outlets in the city.

Shivanjali, Vadavalli, has also focussed on artistic gift hampers. Eco-friendly gold- and silver-coloured baskets will hold the goodies in them this year around. Laddoo lovers, rejoice as there are dates, rava, daal and boondi laddoos to choose from. For those who dig the barfi, there is plenty too created with carrot, beetroot, chocolate, kaju, coconut, badam and pista. If it gets all too sweet there are crisp savouries such as thattai, murukku, mixture, karasev, boondhi, omapodi and so on. Boxed dry fruits are also available.
