Service to serve

Zing at The Metropolitan has a lot going for it except slack service

The new menu at The Metropolitan Hotel.

Some hotels of Delhi have the best locations but still remain unnoticed or should I say are not able to attract enough people. A classic example of this is The Metropolitan Hotel which, in recent times, has not done much to be counted amongst the top hotels of Delhi. It has had its share of glory in the past but as of now it needs a fresh lease of life.

When I was invited to review thenew menu of their all-day dining restaurant Zing, I was quite excited as last year I had one of the best khao suey at the very same restaurant. Though the well-laid buffet was tempting I opted to go with the a la carte additions. Chicken veloute, a thick soup to start with seemed the perfect option. Tender little chunks of chicken, at the bottom, made the soup quite filling and a dash of thyme gave it a nice aroma. Smoked chicken and apple salad was presented beautifully. I am sure a mention of 246.36 calories right next to the name of the salad will attract many health food freaks.

Appetizers seemed to be limited but out of the limited ones I selected a few. Toro’s nest, in which the chicken was tossed in garlic and onions, had the crunch but it was dry and a bit chewy. Same was the case with the chermoula where the chicken lacked juices. It was only the quesadilla which had the perfect Mexican flavours and tingled my taste buds. After trying couple of dishes and noticing the slow pace at which they were served I ordered my following courses right till the dessert while I was on my starters and even then I had to wait for the food to arrive.Sandwiches and burgers are always on my target list so I opted for a melting cheese chicken burger. Once it arrived I had a closer look at it and closed my eyes to have a bite. Melting cheese, dripping yolk and juicy patty just made the experience heavenly. Another delicacy which is a must have at Zing is their fish and chips. Old classic done really well.

The only typical Delhi dish in the menu was the curried stew with tandoori roti and it was a disaster. I ended by indulging myself into a hot chocolate walnut brownie and it was sinful.
