The China House in Connaught Place has some dishes worth trying

Whenever I am in Connaught Place shopping with my family, the only respite for me is that at the end of the venture, I am sure to land up in a good restaurant. Sometimes, for a foodie family like mine, we shop at CP so that we all can sign off the day with a good meal.

Last week, the restaurant which caught my eye during one such trip in CP was the newly opened The China House. Though it’s a new venture, the heavyweights behind the brand are pretty popular among the regulars in Delhi’s party scene. Spearheaded by Atul Kapur of the Q’ba legacy, The China House is here to stay. Because it is located in the Outer Circle K block, a major plus is, you can get a car parking near the restaurant and that’s a blessing when in CP. The décor of the restaurant, segregated into two floors, is quite impressive. Specially the hanging Thai umbrellas which continuously revolve. Beaten metal orchids all over the wall add a bit of class and modernity to the place. The menu with beautiful picture display of the dishes tempts a diner to order most of the dishes.

As a soup lover, two options always make my job easier. One is the laksa and the other is a khow suey. On the recommendation of Feroz Ali, the F&B manager of the restaurant whose name is quite a synonym with the brand, I taste the khow suey. Served with all the condiments on top, unlike other restaurants, it is a flavourful preparation. Crispy fish in chilli garlic follows it — good but lacks a bit on the crispiness, maybe due to the overloaded sauce on top which the fish absorbed. The slow fried prawns are so good that its flavours travel with me all the way home!

Before moving on to the main course, I would suggest you to take a dim sum break whenever you are at The China House. They offer a commendable variety but needs to work a bit on their sui mai. Meal in a bowl concept which I think is not available at most of the Chinese offering restaurants in CP, should be an instant hit with the corporate diners who are always in a hurry. I taste its Malaysian fish curry with sticky rice and loved every morsel of it. The prawn in Sichuan sauce with steamed rice is also worth every bite. I should say that the price at which The China House is offering such signature Chinese delicacies, most of its dishes are worth it.

Also, its crème caramel dessert is not to be missed.
