The new menu at Shiro has some interesting dishes to offer

Flavourful: A dish from the new menu.

Several times, I have noted that a lot of people visit a spa or watch a nice movie to refresh their tired selves. For me, a good food session in a serene ambience is the antidote for a drained-out day. However, in an overly populated city like Delhi, the option of choosing such a place is not so much. When I ask my friends for recommendations, most suggest outdoor restaurants at the Garden of Five Senses in Delhi or some al fresco setups in HKV (Hauz Khas Village). Though for me, it has always been the calming Shiro in hotel Samrat. It has a pristine ambience which I feel gives me positive vibes. Even the menu is full of super dishes.

This time I am introduced to the new menu which has been recently launched by the charismatic Diljeet Singh, General Manager, Shiro. He sets off my gastronomic journey with a range of dim sums. Steamed cashew nut and vegetable dumpling served first is delicious. The garlic oil gives the dumpling a nice flavour. Spinach and corn dim sum that comes in a translucent wrap is beautiful to look at.

The dim sums are followed by a couple of appetisers. I take a bite of crispy fire cracker prawns and just can’t stop myself from finishing the whole serving. It is as flavourful as it is a visual treat. Miso fish is also good having a sweet miso dressing.

In chicken, nahm jihm is again a master dish having perfect Thai flavours. The Thai basil chicken is also good and a perfect option for people who love their food spicy. However, the dish which impresses me the most is the crispy seaweed. Simple in presentation but bursting with flavours and has a perfect texture. The fried pine nuts just take the dish to another level.

Skipping soups and salads for a change, I move on to my main course. I go for one dish from the poultry section and one from meats along with Japanese stir-fried rice and one of my favourites from the old menu, udon noodles. Sliced lamb in a spicy and tangy mint sauce goes well with the noodles. With rice, I enjoy the tender chicken tossed in a spicy Korean sauce. By the time I finish my main course, I can feel the spices hitting my mouth. I take a wise decision to indulge in the sinful molten chocolate lava cake before calling it a day.
