The newly launched Oriental bistro and lounge Saanuk at Kailash Colony has a long list of popular dishes

Hues on your plate: Dishes at Saanuk.

It won’t be wrong to say that there are now certain food, say some Oriental dishes, which Delhiites have accepted from the core of their heart. Such is the demand that established players like Sanjha Chula, which has successfully served people traditional North Indian food for more than three decades, have come up with their latest project called Saanuk, an Oriental bistro and lounge at the city’s Kailash Colony market. Having a liking for the cuisine, I accept the invite to try out its food. On entering it, the décor — a combination of red and black, seems to complement the entire ambience.

Wasting no time, I glance through its menu card which has an extensive list and is full of popular dishes.

As I love to start my meal with a soup, I order a classic tom yum. The soup is served a bit cold but the flavours are bang on. A light and healthy soup.

I follow it with a bowl of raw papaya salad, nicely done with subtle tanginess as well as sweetness. Peanuts in the salad give it a nice crunch and flavour.

Skipping the dim sum section, I move on to taste some starters. Thai herbs grilled chicken is tender to its core has a nice aroma of herbs too. The chilli garlic prawn is also delicious but lacks a fresh garnish. For me, the dish of the day is the crispy shredded lamb. Nicely marinated, a bit spicy, as per my preference, and perfectly crunchy.

As most of the appetisers are on the spicier side, I opt for a refreshing watermelon Mojito. The melon used is sweet but I feel it is muddled a bit too much.

After the mocktail, it is time to taste some dishes from the main course. I am served claypot chicken. Hot and steaming chicken is a complete meal in itself. Having a whole lot of veggies and chicken chunks in light sauces, the claypot chicken can be a bit bland for lovers of spice like me. I feel the most saleable main dish is the Malaysian lamb rending — mouth watering. It really has perfect flavours and an aroma of a rending curry. Even the lamb used is perfectly succulent.

About to sign off, I satisfy my sweet tooth with a scoop of fried ice cream.
