There are two things Delhiites can’t do without — food and movies. Bringing them together, PVR recently launched its first restaurant, Mistral, right next to PVR Directors Cut in Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj.
Serving exotic grills from the European and Indian cuisines, Mistral is spacious and brightly lit.
The focaccia I was served came from the in-house bakery. In a mood for something light and healthy, I tried a quinoa salad with grilled salmon flakes.

Among appetisers there’s smoked salmon with salmon caviar — royal and classy. Chicken liver pate served with compote and crispy onion chips was again a perfect fine-dining delicacy. Among Indian starters, the seekh kabab had the texture of an authentic kabab from an Awadhi kitchen. There was also murgh ke sooley, served on a skewer. It was divine! Lahsuni murgh tangri, though, just passed muster, being very dry and lacking tenderness. Murgh noorani, the chicken wrapped in an omelette, was a nice attempt.
The Italian polo pizza fell a little short. Its topping of shredded chicken had nice flavours, but the dough wasn’t perfect. Skipping the burgers and pastas, I went on to the grills. Here, the live grill station deserves mention; it is a delight to watch your lamb chops or black cod being cooked in front of you. I opted for black cod, which paired well with the barbecue sauce and veggies. In the Indian main course, kadhai chicken with lachha paratha was worth trying.
Crumble and 70 per cent dark chocolate-based soufflé made for sweet endings.
