Head to Bhavan at P.T.C. Towers, Thampanoor, for some homely Tibetan food

Bhavan

If you want to taste the flavour of spicy Tibetan cuisine then Bhavan at P.T.C Towers, S.S. Kovil Road, Thampanoor, is the place to go to. From steamed momos to spicy curries and soups, it is one of the few restaurants (or perhaps the only one) in the city that serves Tibetan cuisine.

With its quiet black and gold ambience, the restaurant is all decked up for a pleasing, non-intrusive dining experience. “I wanted to give it a homely feel and name, that's why I've named it Bhavan,” says Aishwarya Prince, the owner. Aishwarya, herself, did the interiors to give the restaurant the feel of a dining room at home.

Coming to the food, the one that sets your tastebuds on overdrive is the momo – a favourite with the restaurant's customers. Momos are Tibetan dumplings made of chopped chicken or vegetables mixed in ginger-garlic paste, wrapped in thin dough and steamed. Here you get six of them on a plate and they simply melted in my mouth. Next, I tried the Tibetan fried rice, which turned out to be much greener in colour when compared to any other fried rice I've tried.

With a good quantity of vegetables and meat thrown in, the fried rice provides for a wholesome meal and that too without the need for any accompaniments. Other dishes to try out here are the Tibetan Mustang chicken (diced pieces of chicken with soya sauce, egg, cornflour, maida and a special Tibetan sauce), Tibetan Kaza mutton and Tibetan noodles.

Bhavan's menu also has the usual suspects – quintessential Kerala Thali meals, Mattanchery biriyani, Chicken stew, Varutharacha kozhi curry and the like, besides some nice North Indian fare.

There is the interestingly colourful Triranga Kabab, which comes in white, yellow, green and red colour, Irani Kebab (fish cooked in cashewnut and curd), Fish Banjara, Vegetable kebab and Bhindi Jaipuri. Bhavan is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

They take catering orders. Contact: 9645166661 or 0471-4016401.
