PLATTER OF DELIGHT: The ambience at Le Kebab

Tucked away in the quiet neighbourhood of D. D. Colony is the bustling campus of Institute of Hotel Management (IHM). The campus management has recently re-launched Chef’s Court as Le Kebab .

The USP of the restaurant are the eager students who manage the place professionally. By day, the big hall takes the shape of a classroom and by evening, dish after dish is served, at par in both taste and presentation. The restaurant Le Kebab is completely managed by the students, with a little help from the college faculty. An exhaustive and unlimited pre-plated menu is served between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Located inside the college campus, you are welcomed by students sporting a neat uniform: white shirt, black pant teamed with a black tie and they escort you to the restaurant. Don’t miss out on their full smiles. The hall has a seating capacity of 40 people and everything in the restaurant has been done by students — including the wall patterns and décor with paintings. Colours dominates the ambience — pista green walls and LED lights. A centre-piece in the room is attractive and changes everyday.

Whether you order a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian meal, there is plenty to choose from. Start with the

hot and sour soup or the
lemon coriander soup . This is followed by a fruit salad with a ‘unique’ sauce, which the maitre d’ Vinay claims, is a recipe made by the students. Indeed unique, the sauce is a mixture of berries and mustard. While the sweetness of the berries adds to the taste of the fruit, a lasting taste of mustard gives the right kick. Moving on to the appetisers, try the
mushroom kebabs ,
corn sheekh kebab and
paneer tikka . The
corn sheekh
kebab has a mild coconut flavour that goes well with their concoction —
dahi achari .
Dahi achari is a smooth yoghurt-based chutney with tangy pickle. Try the mutton and fish kebab and you won’t go wrong.

The main course comprises three curries, one variety of dal and biryani . The items are served in cup measurements. You can always ask for more.

aloo gobi and trust us, you will ask for more. Pick from an assortment of Indian breads, if you go for the butter naan, you will find it is cooked just right. In the non-vegetarian spread you have mutton and chicken. Don’t be tempted to overeat, you have to save space for

biryani and desserts.

Speaking of desserts, picture a three-dip platter with chocolate chip ice cream , litchi rabdi and beetroot halwa . You’ll lap it up in just three scoops and you’ll be left craving for more.

For a restaurant taken care of entirely by students, Le Kebab is extremely well managed. You can clearly see their eagerness to learn at every step. The litchi in the rabdi is pitted to perfection — there isn’t even a slight tear on the fruit. The portion sizes are adequate. You won’t find yourself wasting food and because it’s unlimited, you can always ask for more. Le Kebab might not be a ‘regular’ restaurant but it has everything working in its favour — a passion for both food and presentation.
