The return of Pakistani televangelist Aamir Liaquat Hussain with his ‘Alim Online’ to Geo News earlier this month evoked strong reactions at both ends of the political spectrum and within the media community. But, amid all the messaging on social media networks and the short resignation of a Geo anchor in protest, nothing quite stands out like the angst of a housewife, Lubna.
Visibly disappointed with Geo’s decision to bring back Aamir Liaquat but with no access to any platform to articulate her anger, Lubna allowed her son to record her diatribe for posting on YouTube. Titled “My Mother Lashes Out at Aamir Liaquat’s return to GEO and…”, the video — posted on July 5 — got over 40,000 hits within 10 days. Encouraged by the response, the aunty-like figure has now decided to speak out on other issues.
And, the mother-son duo is getting serious. They have titled their little home enterprise “Lubna with Awaam” and the second offering has her talking about “Zardari, Chief Justice Iftikhar and the Contempt of Court Bill”.

Though this video did not go as viral as the maiden venture, it still got 1,350 hits in three days.
How long Lubna will have takers for her rant is not certain but her first video sure did touch a chord that is undeniable with many leading lights of Pakistan’s fragmented liberal/ secular lobby celebrating her effort.
