Meet the new quiz wizards

Last week, three teams from Madurai, Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli emerged winners in The Hindu Young World Quiz 2016.

The 16th Edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz is now in Tamil Nadu. In these 16 years, it has grown to become India’s largest inter-school live quiz. Quizmaster V.V. Ramanan, once again played host.

Madurai:The HinduYoung World Quiz was held at Thiagarajar College in Madurai on January 25. V. Dhanush Aditya and A. Aadhitya of Aditya Birla Public School, Ariyalur, retained their school’s junior title with 105 points, followed by B. B. Vikaash and A. G. Kishan Madhav of Mahatma Montessori Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Madurai, who scored 90 points. In the senior section, V. Sri Siva Murugan and B. Selva Muthu Balaji of Sri Jayendra Golden Jubilee School, Sankar Nagar, Tirunelveli, dethroned Mahatma CBSE School, Madurai, by 38 points.

The preliminary round saw 280 teams battle it out. Prizes were distributed by P. Srinivasamurthy, Inspector of Matriculation Schools.

The venue sponsor was Thiagarajar College. The regional sponsors were ARS-HTA, Me Too Snacks and Indian Foods. The event was organised in association with Firefox and Kokuyo Camlin.

Coimbatore: The senior team from Vidhya Niketan Public School — Jeevesh C. and Ashwath Sibi M., created a record of sorts scoring 344 points, a good 250 more than their school mates P. Shriram and R. Avnish, who were the runners-up on January 27. The third prize winners in the senior category were Aravind S. N and Rahul M. from Vidya Vikasini Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore.

The junior quiz saw the team from Chinmaya International School — Vineet Tiwari and Sri Vaibhav, win, beating C.S. Academy, Erode — Senthil Sivakumar and Kanishk M. The runners up in the junior category were Nandakishor G. R and C. K Jayantha Thitiya of The PSBB Millennium School.

The regional sponsors were Banana Slice, Noruks, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Lakshmi Ceramics and Mehta Jewellers (R.S. Puram). SNS Sons College was the venue partner.

Tiruchirappalli: It turned out to be a great performance yet again by G. Siddharth and C. Aneesur Rahman of the Mount Litera Zee School, Tiruchi. They successfully defended their title in The Hindu Young World quiz held on January 28. The event held at M.D. Hall of BHEL campus, saw the participation of 398 teams representing 52 schools situated across the central region and a few from neighbouring Salem and Namakkal districts as well. The team comprising Anirudh Renganathan and M.V. Ramanan of Sri Vageesha Vidyashramam were the runner up, while the Chettinad Vidya Mandir team members Nivedhita and Kanyalakshmi finished third.

Bicycles were given to the winning team, while trophies and certificates were given to others. Participation certificates were given to all students. G. Natarajan, Director, Postal Services, Central Region, Tamil Nadu, distributed the prizes.
