The participants played with colours and created bright works at the finals of The Hindu Young World on-the-spot Painting Competition 2011.
In the junior category, Apeksha Pai, student of Vidyaniketan Public School, took the first prize.
“I am happy. I chose “having fun at the playground” topic and imagined myself playing skipping with my friends.

This is the first time I am winning a prize at this event. I will call up all my friends and relatives and inform them,” said the Std. VI student.
She received a cash prize of Rs. 3,000.

In the senior category, Lakshmishree. A. J. S., student of Bethesda High School, took the first prize. “I expected that I may get second or third prize. When they announced my name, I was pleasantly surprised. First ten minutes, I spent on choosing the topic.
I chose “watching a cricket match with family” topic. Though I am in Std. X, from the beginning I have been focusing on both academics as well as extra-curricular activities.
Painting and drawing soothes my mind and it is a stress-buster. They help me do well in academics too,” said Lakshmishree, who has won several prizes in painting competitions.
She was given a cash prize of Rs. 5,000.
G. Naveen Kumar and Mohammed. A., both students of Bishop Cotton Boys' School, won the second and third prizes respectively in the junior category.
They received cash prize of Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,000. In the senior category, Rakesh. K. R., a student of Sandeepani English High School and Akhil. A. Patil, a student of Bishop Cotton Boys' School won the second and third prizes respectively.
They were given a cash prize of Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000. All the winners received certificates from The Hindu. Artist M. S. Murthy gave away prizes to the winners. V. R. C. Shekar and Muni Mohan, senior faculty, College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat were the judges.
The event, an integral part of The Hindu NIE initiative, was presented by MIOT Hospitals (Chime), while Amrutanjan Relief Cough & Cold, the national sponsor. The best three paintings will be selected and engraved on the cover or lid of Amrutanjan product.
