November 12 was a day full of great expectations at Rajagiri Public School, Kalamaserry. The campus was abuzz with activity, actually it was one big ‘mela' where everyone was bent on having fun. It was time for yet another edition of the hugely popular ‘Kids' Fest'.
Tiny tots or rather kids slightly older than tiny tots all dressed for various competitions, were herded around by teachers. There was song here, a dance there and clearly, a whole lot of fun.
The show was inaugurated by music director Bijibal and that set the note for the day, of fun and frolic. ‘Kids' Fest', which began in 1994, is an inter-kindergarten competition organised by Rajagiri Public School. Every year, schools from the district send children to participate in the various competitions. This time almost 53 schools made it to the event.

Teachers were busy taking their teams from one venue to the next, and they unanimously stated, “this is one event that we look forward to in the school calendar for kindergarten. It is fun and it promotes healthy competition too.” The children were busy with more important things such as competitions and their make up!
Among the competitions held were action song (group and solo in Malayalam and English), medley (group, a fusion of devotional or patriotic), story telling (English and Malayalam), colouring, drawing, clay modelling, origami, English singing etc. Rajagiri Christu Jayanthi School (Kakkanad) won the overall trophy. A child with the most melodious voice was chosen by music director Alphons, who also happens to be a Rajagiri parent. Actors Jayaram and Parvathy gave away the prizes at the valedictory.
Talking about parents and grandparents, there was the usual ‘Funtime', which was time for fun. Since the theme for the day was showbiz and cinema, there were the usual ‘doubles' of actors. In fact, Rev. Fr. Jijo Kadavan (CMI), director, Rajagiri Public School and Shini Cyriac, headmistress Rajagiri Kindergarten, had to join the proceedings. Fr. Jijo gave the clap for the ‘shoot' to begin.

Vijay Kumar was the perfect ‘Kalabhavan Mani' down to the signature voice and musical talent. There were games for parents and grandparents besides the usual lucky dip, early bird prizes etc. Ms. Rajamma Jose, a grandmother stated, “It is thoughtful of the school to involve us in the activities of our grandchildren.” The ‘Funtime' was made more fun with around 72 stalls. There were snacks, books, garments, stalls of banks, gyms, bags and accessories, they were all there. In short there was something for everyone.
The best part, according to Anna and her little friends was “the goody bag!” The goody bag had more than 25 ‘goodies' – all things which kids (and parents) would love. Crayons, pens, pencils, magazines, instant noodles… the list goes on. No wonder kiddies are looking forward to next year!
