All trips start and end with a walk. But you would have noticed that the space for footpaths has been decreasing over the years. This makes walking on the streets of Chennai dangerous. Did you know that only 20 per cent of roads in out city have footpaths and 42 per cent of accidents involve pedestrians?

The Hindu in collaboration with Transparent Chennai invite students of Chennai to reclaim their Right to Walk and be part of a unique opportunity to raise awareness about pedestrian issues through poetry, essay, drawing and poster design competitions.

Transparent Chennai will also hold pedestrian awareness workshops for participating schools. These events and activities will culminate in an organised rally with students and other citizens advocating for a walkable Chennai.
