Role-playing was one part of the event the children seemed to have liked the most.

Creative projects can break the monotony of classroom learning and make it fun. To improve communication skills among kindergarten students, S.B.O.A. Matriculation and Higher Secondary School, Chokkampudur, organised a project presentation recently.

Simple topics

In the project titled “My Surroundings”, simple topics like Me, My School, Cleanliness, Clothing, Rooms at home and People Who Help Us, were chosen. “These topics are included in their syllabus. The students are already familiar with them and so they found it easy to present their ideas, says Sujatha Ramakrishanan, who co-ordinated the programme.

“We have included role-playing which is an effective way of learning. The exercise is aimed to improve their efficiency in spoken English,” she adds.

Keren Teresa, U.K.G, had played the role of a carpenter. “We helped her to make a model of the living room using wood, thermacol and colour papers. She spoke about the function of living room in a house,” said her mother Mariam Vijay.

“I could see that the kids were enjoying it. The project helped them overcome stage-fright and present their ideas with confidence. It has helped my son to improve his oratory skills,” says G. Venkata Raman. His son G.V. Akshath had played the role of a policeman.
