Beware! It’s a Lair!

Whether it is animals or criminals, it’s the lair you’ll have to stay away from.

The sleeping place of animals like the bear, wolf, tiger or lion is a lair .

Eg: The hunter gathered courage and entered the lair of the lion.

The tigress frequently relocated to new

lairs to prevent the cubs from being attacked by predators.

A criminal, like a serial killer, who lacks human qualities and is more akin to wild animals, can have a

lair too! It’s their home or hiding place.

Eg: The criminal lured the children to his underground lair .

It’s comfy too!

Though lair usually carries a negative connotation, it is sometimes used to refer to a cozy place, ideal for work or play.

Eg: The writer’s lair was a cozy little place, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The word lair comes from Old English leger meaning ‘bed’. It rhymes with air, fair.

So, now you know what a lair stands for. But don’t get too adventurous and try to peek into a lair when you are out on an adventure in a forest. You never know whose hideout it is!
